Remembering Molina

My beloved wife, Molina, passed away on 11th May, 2017.

She was my world, my universe. With her passing away I seem to have lost everything.

She was suffering from brain cancer (Glioblastoma Multiforme Grade IV) since last 4 years (June, 2013). It was difficult time. She fought the disease with great bravery. In spite of going through 2 surgeries, her smile remained intact. I loved, respected and admired her for many qualities but all these grew phenomenally during this testing time.

She was a bundle of energy. A restless person. When her batteries were charged she couldn't sit still and when drained she slumped in bed.

A photographer by profession, she was also a trained dancer (Visharad in Bharatnatyam) and a self-taught visual artist.

Molina had child-like fascination for animals. This fascination remained her central subject both in

photography and painting. She had spent a lot of her childhood visiting wild life sanctuaries, as her father, Mr. Hemendra Shah, is a well wild life photographer based in Ahmedabad. Hence she was best when she shot birds and animals. Her paintings too contained free flowing anthropomorphic forms.

Molina's painting, Untitled, Gouache on paper

In gratitude
During these 4 years we realized that we live in a wonderful world. We got such a lot of concern, help, love and prayers from acquaintances, friends and relatives that it is difficult to express in words. These includes Doctors and Naturopaths who treated her. Naming few and leaving out others may not be right and naming everybody seems impossible.

Jaipur will miss the spirit that soared, and touched so many lives.

Saying Goodbye to Surendra Pal Joshi The artist community mourns the loss of Surendra Pal Joshi, the man who had impressed us all with his experimentation and adventure in his artistic practice. He inspired by doing: never content with traditional imagery or material, he constantly strived for the new, the quirky, and the imaginative. A friendship of over a decade I knew Surendra Pal Joshi to be a soft spoken person, a conscientious teacher, a bearded, long haired persona full of mirth and chat. Originally from Uttarakhand, he studied art in Lucknow but Jaipur was his adopted home. Shaping young artists for two decades at the Rajasthan School of Art, Jaipur, he also continued his art practice for over thirty years. He created multi-dimensional art, working with paintings, sculptures, installations and videos using light and sound. He was a contemporary artist dealing with contemporary themes. Arguably his most memorable work was a massive abstract installation title...
